Hibernate with a Good Book!!

To conclude "B.E.A.R." (Be Excited About Reading) Week, Harrison Elementary celebrates with an all day read-a-thon. We have been enjoying books and learning about bears all week. For our read-a-thon, we built caves to hibernate with a good book!! The kids LOVED it!! Each student brought in a sheet and constructed the caves using the desks in our class. They then snuggled up with friends and a good book. It was a fun week of enjoying books.
Our classroom filled with "caves".

Students reading inside the caves!

Shaving Cream Fun!!!

This week we practiced our Spelling words in a fun way!! Each child was given a tray with shaving cream and we practiced writing our Spelling and Vocabulary words! It was a fun time!

"Lunch Lady Light" visits our class!

Yummy!!! We were so lucky to have "Lunch Lady Light" visit our classroom. She is working hard with the other members of the Warsaw Community School Food Service staff to introduce more fresh fruits and vegetables into the lunch menu. Each student in class had the opportunity to participate in a "taste test". Many of the students found that they really enjoyed most of the fruits and vegetables even when they thought they wouldn't!! After the students sampled each of the fruits and veggies they recorded whether or not they liked what they tasted. Thank you, Mrs. Light!!

Ready to start tasting yummy fruits and veggies!

Miss Small's Class Presents... Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer!

For Reader's Workshop during the month of December, we read several different versions of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. For a fun activity, we performed a reader's theater skit of this fun Christmas Story for the Kindergarten classes.

All Aboard the Polar Express!

For our Polar Express party, each student wore his/her pajamas to school! We pretended to be one of the children from this story who took a trip to the North Pole on the Polar Express. As a class, we both read the book and watched the movie!! It was a fun day!
Waiting for the "Conductor Polston" to let us aboard the "Polar Express". Every student had a ticket to board the train!

All Aboard!!!!! Conductor Polston punched all of the tickets to board the train!
For "intermission" we had a yummy hot chocolate break, just like the children on the train!

Mrs. Small Visits 1st grade!

Before Christmas break, my mom, "Mrs. Small", came to visit first grade! We baked sugar cookies together. The students got to watch and help mix the ingredients, roll out the dough, cut out the cookies, and then we baked the cookies in the oven in the cafeteria! Afterward, we had yummy cookies to decorate and enjoy. Each student got to take home one cookie to give away, as well!

Mixing the ingredients and rolling out the dough!

Gingerbread Houses!

This is such a fun project!! The students save milk cartons from lunch. We then glue graham crackers to the milk carton and cover the carton with frosting and candy. The students are so creative! They turned out great!!
