Curl Up and "Hibernate" with a Good Book!
Today, we built "caves" in our classroom out of blankets and sheets. We pretended to hibernate like the bears that we have been learning about this week. All of the first grade students cuddled up with their favorite books in one of the caves that they "built". It was a fun morning!!

Polar Bear Paw Measurement
In honor of BEAR week, we are learning about polar bears. Today, we learned how polar bears use their strong paws as weapons. We made paws that are the size of an actual polar bear's paw. We then used our knowledge of estimation to estimate how many polar bear paws it would take to walk from our classroom to the cafeteria. After we recorded our estimates, we walked down to the cafeteria, measuring our steps as we went. It takes 165 polar bear paws to get from our classroom to the cafeteria!

Writing Letters to President Obama
This week, we have been working on letter writing. We have written letters to our friends, and other teachers in the building. For our final letter, we are writing to President Obama for President's Day. The students did a great job thinking of questions to ask the President. Today our 5th grade reading buddies came down to help us as we completed our final drafts. We will mail the letters off, and hopefully we will receive a reply!
